“Do what you love, know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it, and gnaw at it still.” Thoreau
Stinging Nettle Farm
As a team, my daughter Emily and I are working hard to build a more sustainable homestead, learning to simplify our needs.
I have a home-based business hand-stitching custom fit footwear - Next best thing to walking barefoot.
Recently I started a collection of traditional hand woodworking tools to produce useful items from my own wood lot.
Emily has her chicken flock, started in 2008.
2011 we put into action a rainwater catchment system to aid during dry spells and take the load off of the electric pump. We have more to do for toilet and shower water needs. Dream of having a hand pump!
We heat with wood and in the coldest months of the winter we reduce our living space by moving a bed to the living room to conserve firewood and not use electricity for heating.
We’ve expanded the conventional garden to a manageable size and hopefully this year it will be chicken free during the growing season.
Music! Can’t forget the live music often making its’ way through the open windows while I’m outside gardening. Love to hear my daughter practicing, whether it be piano; piano accordion; djemba drum; or guitar.
