“Back to the basics” – there is a good reason we hear this phrase over and over again. When searching beyond the bigger/more ideals of today, I always find myself circling back to the same place, “go back to the basics”/ “keep it simple”. It has been my observation that contentment is the gift of appreciation, to treasure the availability of essentials at hand, to see & feel the beauty in our surroundings and to enjoy the moments. This can be difficult when we are flooded with the distractions of a busy life, living up to other’s expectations or those expectations we place on ourselves.
I’ve known since my teenage years which direction I needed to go to nurture my being, even so I’ve allowed distractions to happen. Today, living in this society with the responsibilities of a mother and taxpayer, I will do my best with opportunities at hand to “return home”. What feeds me? Playing in the dirt; bread labor; the touch of another that cares; a brewing storm; music……….
It is a slow road with little money and no partner, but I continue to move in the right direction. While realizing the gifts I have now, my goal is to live off-the-grid with support of like-minded friends.
